MASTER BEDROOM SUITE, CHELTENHAM, GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Master Suite, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
The Brief
Our clients asked us to create a beautiful Master Suite for their lovely Victorian home.
The Design
Inspiration
We had originally designed this room around a Colefax and Fowler wallpaper, but eventually swapped the wallpaper for the matching fabric and painted walls. The green and blue wisteria inspired design connects the Master Suite with the grounds of the house, and is offset by the elegant mid-brown tones of Farrow&Ball London Stone. Our thanks to Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd for doing such a wonderful job with these curtains.
Furniture and Lighting
The dramatic four poster bed and side tables were purchased with the house, and are elevated by the chaise in blue velvet which was design in collaboration with F&M Steed, our favourite upholstered furniture makers. The OKA mirrors and Pooky table lamp in this striking emerald colourway flanking the bed give a touch of brightness and interest.
This grand room lacked mouldings, which the talents of Marks team from Regency Mouldings and Fireplaces soon put to rights, and are beautifully adorned by this Vaughan leaf-inspired chandelier.

Dressing Room
The cabinetry in the Master Dressing Room was designed and built by hand by Tait Furniture, and what a wonderful job they did. The finish in Farrow&Ball Oval Room Blue is a lovely contrast to the Oxford Stone on the walls, and a wonderful complement to the Colefax and Fowler window treatment fabric, made up into a Roman blind in this instance, by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd. The crowning glory of this pretty space is the Vaughan Joliet Chandelier. A lovely space for getting ready.
Emma is a superstar
“Steve has just sent me a video of our room, bathroom and dressing room and it all looks beautiful! Thank you both.”

TEENAGERS’ SPACE, CHELTENHAM, GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Interior Design for Teens, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
The Brief
Our client tasked us with creating some dedicated, contemporary spaces for their teenage daughters. We began with a TV Nook and Study Area, using this vibrant Charlotte Gaisford fabric as inspiration. Lynne Kelly worked her usual magic, turning this fabric confection into three lovely Roman blinds.
The Design
Study Area
This corner of the TV Nook makes a perfect study space, just across the hall from the Kitchen. This two-person desk was designed and created by Allan, our clever carpenter, and looks lovely against Farrow&Ball Drop Cloth. The wall cabinets, desk lamps, and desk chairs have all been selected to enhance this fun and functional space, interspersed with the girls’ own personal items.
Teen Dressing Room
We channelled our inner teenagers with the design of this space. This Hollywood Mirror makes a lovely make-up and hair station when combined with Dressing Table, Tall 5 Drawer Chest and Four Door Wardrobe from the Chantilly Warm White range from the Cotswold Company and a dressing table stool in blue velvet created by F&M Steed.
The broad striped Meg Morton fabric in Vintage Pink is used to create a striking Roman blind made by the ever talented Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd, and this Lights&Lamps ceiling light looks great against Farrow&Ball Elephants Breath in Modern Emulsion.
“We love our TV room and our dressing room!”

LUXURY CONTEMPORARY DESIGN & BUILD, LEICESTERSHIRE
Luxury Contemporary Design & Build, Northwest Leicestershire
The Brief
Our clients are a professional couple working with an architect, Turner & Co., to design and build their dream home.

Open Plan Gallery
Our clients are keen art collectors, and this portion of the open plan space was designed with art in mind. These three large paintings were commissioned especially for this space. They sit on a wall painted with Farrow&Ball Slipper Satin No. 2004, and are hung from a picture hanging system that allows the clients to move art around at will. The sculpture cabinet has been custom made to display some of the clients’ favourite pieces, lit beautifully with recessed LED strips, and painted in Farrow&Ball Off-Black No. 57. Karndean wood-effect luxury vinyl tile (LVT) runs throughout the open plan space, into the Atrium, and down to the guest wing. This particular colourway has a lovely warmth to it, and is the largest plank size available from Karnean, so suitable for large spaces.

Kitchen and Utility Room Design
This beautiful kitchen was designed by Osborne of Ilkeston, painted in Farrow & Ball Blue Gray No. 91 and Inchyra Blue No. 289 with accents in Egger Grey-Beige Gladstone Oak crowned with Corian worktops. A large dining island is graced with a stainless-steel sink fitted with a Quooker boiling water tap, while an induction hob has been installed in the long run of cabinets, among other high-end appliances.
Two tall cabinet doors (named Narnia Doors by our client) open to reveal this fantastic Utility Room. The colours in here are the same as those in the Kitchen, but with Farrow & Ball Inchyra Blue No. 289 taking pride of place. We love the drama of it!

Open Plan Living and Dining
These over-sized sofas are the creation of F&M Steed, covered in a bold Black Edition velvet, paired with a matching upholstered coffee table. The massive sliding glass doors show off the lovely hillside on which the house is built, and are softened with voiles made up with delicate sheer Black Edition fabric by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd suspended from an automated track supplied and fitted by Silent Gliss. The ceramic-topped dining table has the most gorgeous texture and is complemented by 10 dining chairs in creamy faux leather, all supplied by Denelli Italia.

Study
The client loves this Orla Kiely fabric so much that we designed his Study around it! We painted the walls with Farrow & Ball White Tie No. 2002 to complement the fabric, and picked up the orange hue in the filing cabinet (out of frame) – why should it be industrial grey??? To balance out the orange, the desk and cabinet are in shades of blue, with matching ceiling lights and table lamps in black with brass detailing.
Library
This is a small room with a big personality! The custom cabinetry created by our clever joiner Allan with black rails is painted with Farrow & Ball Slipper Satin No. 2004, the walls and ladder with Radicchio No. 96. Topped off with one of Lynne Kelly’s Roman blinds in Designers Guild velvet, and a simple ceiling light, it makes for a fun and functional space.

Master Suite
The inspiration for the Master Suite is another fabric, this one from the imagination of Emma Shipley. If you like colour (and these clients LOVE colour), why not embrace it? These wave-headed curtains made up in this whimsical design have been handsewn by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd and hang on a Silent Gliss track. Roman blinds in coordinating silks give some lovely colour blocking, and all of these fabrics are united in a collection of cushions, also made by Lynne. F&M Steed made this smashing super-king size bed covered in leather. Bedside tables sit neatly either side topped with these fab table lamps, both from House of Isabella.
His and hers Dressing Rooms are by Osbornes of Ilkeston, and sit either side of the Master Bathroom. We love the way that the Roman blind lends a sense of fun to this open and airy space.

Testimonial from our client:
Emma has a perfect blend of professionalism and enthusiasm. She listened to our unique needs, offering stunning, cohesive, practical, cost-effective designs, which we love.

The Brief
Our clients are busy professionals with two young children whose property, situated in a conservation area, had been extended by the former owners to its maximum footprint. The only way to increase the size of the house was to incorporate the garage space into the house and completely reconfigure the layout. The architect developed an airy open plan design at the rear of the property and connected it to the large garden with a series of bi-fold and French doors. This space incorporated a vaulted ceiling in the new Kitchen, flowing into a Dining Area and Living Room.

Other Considerations
The Johals did a lot of family entertaining and wanted to be able to maximise seating on those occasions.
Multiple family members have asthma, so dust traps and anything ‘furry’ should not be included.
This Northeast facing space needed to be bright and vibrant.
The clients wanted the style of their home to be striking and contemporary with a strong use of colour.

The Design
The Kitchen and Utility have been designed in collaboration with Stephen Christopher Design. A German kitchen was chosen in graphite with elements of walnut for contrast, and fitted with a Quooker boiling water tap and combination Bora induction and gas hob with downward extraction, among other high end appliances.
Lighting is an important design feature in this home and is used to zone the space. From the simple yet elegant task light suspended from the vaulted ceiling over the island, to the origami-like dining pendant, to the table, ceiling, and floor lamps in the Living Room.
The spaces are unified using a strongly textured Anthology wallpaper in shades of blue and silver, and tie in with the kitchen with the use of walnut doors with graceful Italian door furniture. Small seating areas allow for places to read or sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view of the garden, and these combined with nesting footstools and a large L-shaped sofa make seating large numbers of people comfortably a breeze, while the contemporary log burner makes for cosy winter nights in.
The photographs on this page show how stunning the result was (and how it perfectly matches their very specific brief). The client was so delighted that they allowed us back into their home to take these images, for which we are very grateful.

“Emma went above and beyond”
“Emma Cockroft has been absolutely brilliant and has helped us design our remodelled home to give it the WOW factor! Emma had a very nice approach, she really took the time to understand our tastes and what we wanted and came up with some fantastic ideas and solutions, many of which we would not have chosen ourselves but have worked so well. Emma went above and beyond in her role to make sure we were completely satisfied with the end result, often taking us on field trips to see and choose certain products first hand. Emma then showed us her plan on a very easy to follow presentation and even at this stage, after all her efforts, we were able to make changes if we weren’t completely satisfied… as it happened, we were completely satisfied but it was nice to still have the option to change things.
After that we could choose to purchase all the products ourselves or have Emma project manage the job for an extra fee. We asked her to project manage and it was really worth it! Emma communicated well with our builders and kitchen suppliers and made sure everything was delivered on time and everything was put in place to the exact specifications that were on the presentation. Even after all the fees have been paid, Emma has kept in touch and will be visiting the house to help us dress it up. If you want to give your home or certain rooms that “designer show-home look” we would highly recommend Emma.
Thank you.”

The Brief
Our clients are a professional couple with two children who bought their lovely, airy home in an exclusive development. Their brief to help them to us was to put their stamp on it.
Get the Look
Kitchen Design
This spacious Dining Kitchen was designed in collaboration with Stephen Christopher Design, a Nottinghamshire based family owned and operated company. This sleek German kitchen with neatly recessed cabinetry, integrated lighting and a large cooking and dining island is designed for function as well as form, fitted with a Quooker boiling water tap and Bora induction hob with downward extraction, among other high end appliances.
Open Plan Family and Dining Room Design
The adjoining Family Room and Dining Room have been enhanced with soft furnishings and window treatments in dramatic Harlequin Distortion and a luxurious Designers Guild velvet, made in-house by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd, a local family business, and brightened by a bold Harlequin feature wallpaper.

Window and Wall Treatments
Hallway, Stairs and Landing windows are now dressed with Black Edition velvet pelmets and Roman blinds, which have a softening effect – this is a fantastic way to use an expensive fabric sparingly. The generously proportioned Living Room has benefitted from the addition of a textured wallpaper from Today Interiors, and wave-headed curtains on Silent Gliss tracks in a Black Edition printed jacquard in Blush. A local joiner custom made pelmet boards to cover the curtain tracks which the decorators painted in Farrow&Ball Ammonite No.274 to blend in with the walls.

Master Bedroom
Our guidance from the client was to design a boutique hotel-style Master Bedroom. We sourced a fabulous handmade wallpaper from Vahallan, along with these gorgeous Onyx Wall Lamps, and replaced all switches and sockets on the feature wall to matt black. Finishing touches are the Roman Blind and cushions in another luxurious Harlequin fabric.

“She has helped us turn our new house into a home”
“Emma was recommended to us by friends when we moved in our new house and we have loved working with her. She is professional and extremely passionate about what she does. As well as working on the overall design Emma has taken the stress out of the project management through her coordination of all of the required trades and ensuring that the highest quality finish is achieved. The best compliment I can give is that she has helped us turn our new house into a home and I look forward to working with her again in the future.”

Living Space Design, Mapperley, Nottingham
The Brief
Our clients are a couple in their 30’s with a young son who moved into their large 1930’s family home 18 months ago. With an extension planned for the near future, they wanted to concentrate on a previously unused room, converting it into a sophisticated adult space, a Living Room in which to spend time together as a couple, and for entertaining. They wanted this space to be light, airy, and elegant.

Other Considerations
Sophisticated lighting and a strong use of texture were desired.
A newly installed contemporary gas fire needed to be incorporated into the design.
Original features were to be renovated and/or retained including weather damaged stained-glass windows.
Existing French doors into the adjoining playroom required a privacy screen.

The Design
We began with restoration work to the original internal door, removing a layer of plywood installed in the 1980’s and making repairs prior to painting. The round stained-glass windows were replaced with acid-etched plate glass, providing privacy while retaining light. The double-glazed panels in the French Doors were replaced with acid-etched alternatives which keep the playroom and the adult spaces separate.
The sofas and chair were designed with F&M Steed, a skilled local family-owned maker of upholstered furniture. The sofas, covered in an elegant Designers Guild fabric in cerulean blue and burnished gold, piped and buttoned in blue leather, are set around a lovely &Tradition coffee table – this striking pattern is repeated in a Wi-Fi enabled mechanised Roman blind created by the ever-talented Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd. Farrow & Ball Elephant’s Breath No. 229 in practical Modern Emulsion and matching Eggshell woodwork makes for a contemporary treatment, with neatly stripped and restored ceilings painted in All White No. 2005.

The Finishing Details
An old, inefficient radiator has been replaced with this Milano one in black, and the mirror that now sits above it bounces light around the room.
The lighting, side tables and side board in black and warm-toned metals complete the look, with a final flourish of texture and colour in the area rug and sofa throw.
We were extremely pleased with everything from the design brief to the final touches
“We asked Emma to design a formal living room for us, an elegant and sophisticated adults only sanctuary. The only thing that we didn’t love from Emma’s original design was the lighting, but when we brought this to her attention she offered us a number of alternatives, one of which we loved! We were both working from home, so opted for the project management service. Emma selected and organised the various tradespeople, which allowed us to continue to work uninterrupted. We were extremely pleased with everything from the design brief to the final touches. See the photos of the finished design for yourself! ”

Family Home Interior Design, Rempstone, Leicestershire
The Brief
Our clients are a professional couple with four children who wanted help designing the interior of their large home on an exclusive development in Rempstone, bought off-plan.
The Design
Kitchen Design
The kitchen was designed in collaboration with Stephen Christopher Design, accentuated by bulkheads painted in Farrow & Ball Drawing Room Blue. This beautiful German kitchen’s crowning glory is a Dekton work surface, an exceedingly durable and decorative alternative to marble, granite, quartz or Corian. A large cooking and dining island is designed for function as well as form, fitted with a Quooker boiling water tap and Bora induction hob with downward extraction, among other high end appliances.
Open Plan Design
Open plan living is such a strong trend for good reason – practicality! The way to make it work is to zone the space properly. A Today Interiors wallpaper and an area rug add a softening quality that designates this as a Sitting Room, while the lighting hung low over the dining table paired with comfy blue velvet chairs from Made make for a welcoming place to dine. The bar stools are set out in a social configuration, making a lovely spot to perch during meal preparation, and a practical place for the girls to do homework.

Master Bedroom Design
We are often asked to create bedroom designs that feel like a luxury boutique hotel room, but these clients really like colour and pattern. These wave-headed curtains fit the bill in a bold Harlequin fabric hand finished by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd and hung on a Silent Gliss track. We sourced this headboard and ottoman locally, having them upholstered in luxurious Warwick Velvet balanced by bedside tables from Rockett St George on either side.

Living Room Design
The formal Living Room in this home is massive, which presents a real challenge. Furniture needs to be oversized, or risk becoming lost. The use of a large area rug works well here, and the use of big bold patterns do too. A feature wall with another Harlequin wallpaper paired with the matching pattern in the curtain fabric is a playful treatment, with a crushed velvet covered pelmet to add more texture and dress the window when the curtains are open. Wood effect tile flooring supplied by Porcelanosa.

“She did an absolutely amazing job!”
“We first met Emma in June 2018 as we needed a facelift for our lounge and bedroom and were short on inspiration. She did an absolutely amazing job! She has made such a difference to our home, and allowed us to create a look that we would never have been able to achieve on our own. So much so we called on her again when we moved house in December 2019 – she designed our kitchen from scratch and again was able to pick just what we needed in the master bedroom and lounge. She has a boundless enthusiasm and energy that are infectious! Plus a real knack for understanding what it is you like. She always listened to our views, and our feedback, and acted in accordance to our wishes. She doesn’t stop until you are 100% satisfied with the finished product. I cannot recommend Emma highly enough. In fact our neighbours have now used her on our recommendation and are equally thrilled!”

The Brief
Our clients asked us us to create a luxurious full home interior scheme to make them feel at home while they are in the UK The owners of this high-end property are a globe-trotting couple who bought a new home off-plan in Derbyshire as a bolt hole.
The Design: Master Suite
Our brief from the client was to design a restful, boutique hotel-style Master Bedroom. They really enjoy texture but aren’t fans of strong colours, so we began with wave-headed curtains on a Silent Gliss track and a pelmet in Black Edition Anukka in Rose Quartz fabric. All of these lovely soft furnishings including the cushions have been made by the ever talented Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd.
The existing bed has been tied into the colour scheme with an ottoman and matching chair in Luxor Velvet and grounded with a lovely area rug from Atomic Interiors, RV Astley chest-of-drawers, bedside tables and table lamps have been provided by House of Isabella. The crowning glory, so to speak, is the dramatic ceiling light from Ocean Lighting.
The Master Bathroom has been reconfigured with a wall hung toilet and sink cabinets courtesy of Stephen Christopher Design, with a roller blind and pelmet in the same fabric as the Master Bedroom for the sake of continuity.
A bedroom has been repurposed as a Dressing Room, also by Stephen Christopher Design. This beautiful and relaxing space has been designed specifically for the client, with lots of long hanging space and shoe storage. The dressing table on the opposite side is flanked by cases for the client’s designer handbags on either side.

Kitchen and Utility Design
Although the Kitchen design was set by the time our clients purchased their home, it needed a little finessing. The Kitchen plan had a fundamental flaw – no bin for waste or recycling, and no obvious place to position a free standing one.
Stephen Christopher Design have created a fantastic unit for washing machines and tumble dryers that bring them up to waist height. We positioned them in the garage, making space in the Utility Room for integrated waste and recycling bins. Problem solved!
The original tap was replaced with a Quooker boiling water tap, and the extractor fan (a chunky stainless steel monster which looked like it belonged in a chip shop) and induction hob were replaced with a Bora induction hob with downward extraction. We installed this sleek (and very reasonably priced) ceiling light with a splash of blue with bar stools by Danetti.

Open Plan Dining Room and Sitting Room Design
The generous ceramic-topped dining table also from Danetti is nestled among dining chairs made by F&M Steed covered in this fantastic printed velvet piped in blue leather.
The velvet (Soho Cloud) and leather theme continues in the Sitting Room area with custom furniture made by the same local manufacturer, sitting on an area rug in shades of blue and taupe/grey. All of these elements complement the striking wave-headed curtains in this Harlequin fabric made in-house by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd.
These areas are united by gorgeous ceiling lights by Spanish manufacturer Schuller.

Living Room Design
Contemporary creamy-white reclining sofas flanked by his and hers side tables by Amara sit on a Porcelanosa wood-effect tile floor softened with this glorious Nourison area rug from Naken Interiors. The Laing & Eimil sideboard sits snugly into the recess to the left of the fireplace topped with this table lamp.
Facing the Living Room is this dramatic new staircase by Neville Johnson, a glass and dusted oak confection complete with under-stair wine rack – a fun use of otherwise wasted space.

The Brief
Our clients are a busy professional couple without children living at home – a Victorian Semi-Detached house.
The Design
Living Room Design
This is a good reminder that old and new do mix! The walls are painted with Dulux Egyptian Cotton, keeping chair rails, skirtings, architraves, and doors in Gloss White. The leather sofa in a soft denim colourway is from Barker and Stonehouse, while the crystal chandelier and vintage poster have been in the family for years. Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd created the Roman blinds in this striking Harlequin fabric in Ochre.

Dining Room Design
This room was rearranged to allow the existing furniture to flow better. The client thinks that the application of the fabulous large geometric printed wallpaper from Cole & Son is great fun next to the dramatic Harlequin upholstered pelmet, also created by Lynne Kelly Curtains Ltd. A simple black textured roller blind, also supplied and fitted by Lynne, is a functional window treatment to prevent glare as the sun goes down. This designer bronze radiator from Best Heating has enough heat output to keep this south facing room warm and welcoming.

Master Bedroom Design
While as a rule we create bedroom spaces that are restful, rules are made to be broken! The use of this Harlequin wallpaper won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it certainly makes a statement. This maximalist design pairs strong patterns, chevrons and lilies, but tones it down with lots of texture and a limited colour palette. These cushions and throw from Christy and additional cushions from Jarrold add texture and interest. Slim metal-framed mirrors in round and oval shapes help to bounce light around, and these two are a real deal at less than £100 each. Sacrificing the end of the room for a built-in wardrobe maximises storage, which with the addition of a large white chest-of-drawers and two oversized black bedside tables keep the space uncluttered.
Family Bathroom Decoration
All that this room needed was a change of colour scheme. A switch to Farrow& Ball Setting Plaster No.231 above the rail warms up the space, and the addition of some trailing plants and some Christy towels completes the look.
This room in north facing, so light is an issue. A colour palette of crisp white and fresh green was selected, incorporating a floating shelf with real trailing plants and a 1940’s bed refinished in Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Grey. Although plantation shutters were considered, Venetian blinds were eventually selected for a similar look at 10% of the price.

Guest Bedroom Design
This ‘attic room’ was inspired by the client’s time in Japan. The existing Japanese futon bed and low bedside tables are accessorised with tall table lamps with fabric shades and flesh and white coloured bed linens. The ceiling light from Ocean Lighting is a simple LED flush mounted fitting in black fabric. The end of the room has been repurposed for storage with the addition of wall-to-wall louvred-door wardrobes graced with black leather and brass loop handles from Royal Design, which serves both as hanging space for guests and as a linen closet for the rest of the house. The walls and woodwork are painted in Farrow & Ball Peignoir No.286, and an antique kimono is displayed as a wall hanging.
“Emma worked with me over an extended period time, slowly helping to restore the Victorian character of this lovely West Bridgford building, while thoroughly modernising throughout with exceptional style and elegance and all the time respecting my budget.
She was amazingly easy to work with and is a real professional. Thank you”

Open Plan Home Renovation, East Bridgford
The Brief
Our clients are a busy professional couple with two young children living in a new home on a small private estate. They have lived in the area for years and often work from home. This makes them one of the few clients who manage the implementation of projects themselves, using their own local tradespeople.

The Design
Reading Area Design
The original layout of this home left a large unused space in front of floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the garden. When our clients asked us to create a Reading Area, we knew that this was the spot! We specified the Zeta Leather Chair (large enough to fit one adult and two small children) as a place to read in the evenings, and used a Harlequin paper to zone the space, choosing a colourway that matched the colour palate of the curtains in the Dining Room so that the rooms flow into one another. The finishing touch is this stylish standard lamp for good, even lighting.
Kitchen Renovation
The Kitchen required some modification, as opposed to a replacement. The Kitchen island finished short of the base cabinets on the far wall, making it difficult to understand where the Kitchen ended and the Dining Area began. It also suffered from dark brown wood-effect end panels, which looked drab in this underlit space.
We began by designing a small breakfast bar to extend the island, providing an additional seating area which has proven very popular. The end panels were treated with Zinsser, then painted in Farrow&Ball Off-White No.3. We improved the lighting by adding white wall cabinets with under mounted LED lights from Magnet to the far wall along with a light bright Elica Seashell Hood, as much sculpture as extractor! We also specified a glass splashback colour matched to the new wall colour, Farrow&Ball Card Room Green No.79.
Dining Room Design
The existing Neptune dining table was paired with a Neptune sideboard, topped with decorative items from John Lewis. A large mirror from La Redoute bounces light around the space, and a Kentia Palm in a self-watering pot connects the indoor space to the garden.
“We invited Emma to design our open plan Kitchen / Dining Room. We wanted to avoid an overhaul of the existing kitchen but Emma was still able to find ingenious ways to bring new life into the space. From subtle colour changes to statement furniture, Emma really had great ideas on how to transform the room. She also worked in partnership with her specialist contacts to ensure a complete and quality design.
On top of that, Emma is fun to work with. We will definitely be calling her again for our next project.”
